- Lay the run along its planned path. Start at the console or rack end and work toward the fixtures. Keep bundles on truss, along walls, or under the stage. Never lay a cable across an open walkway without a cover.
- Separate power and data bundles. Run mains in one bundle and DMX in another. Where they must cross, cross at right angles and keep the shared section as short as possible. This is the oldest rule in stage lighting cable management and it still prevents most noise issues.

When the paths must merge, cross at 90 degrees and keep the parallel run short. For permanent installations, a separate tray or a physical divider is worth the extra cost.
What is the best way to coil a stage lighting cable?
Use an over-under wrap. Build the cable around your elbow in alternating loops, one loop twisting clockwise and the next counter-clockwise.
