Why We Opened Offices in Malaysia and Mexico

Why YC Light opened Malaysia and Mexico offices, and what a true stage lighting global service means for your project.

When a lighting manufacturer opens an office abroad, the motivation rarely fits on a press release. We opened our branch in Malaysia in 2015, and our branch in Mexico in 2018, for a direct reason: clients in those regions kept asking for help that a factory in Guangzhou could not deliver fast enough on its own. A stage lighting global service is not a website that lists shipping terms. It is a network of people in the right time zones who can inspect, debug, train, and answer when your show is two days away.

Guangzhou Yicheng Light Industry Limited — known as YC Light — started in 2012 as a source factory in Baiyun District, Guangzhou. We now manufacture across 13 product categories with more than 153 models, and our clients are spread across more than 50 countries. We kept the operating style of a factory: every production run goes through pre-production sample confirmation and final inspection before shipment, and our products carry a one-year warranty. The question was how to extend that rigor beyond our own loading dock.

Why a Source Factory Opens Overseas Offices

Most of our product range — beam and LED moving heads, pars, strobes, lasers, effects, outdoor IP65 fixtures — is sold through dealers, rental houses, and system integrators. A dealer can replace a lamp. A rental crew with dozens of moving heads on a truss needs a different level of support. When fixtures arrive, someone must unpack, test, patch DMX addresses, and confirm each unit matches the console protocol. When a fixture fails during a show, the replacement cannot wait for a quote approval cycle to complete.

The factory in Guangzhou is built for production. Our five workshops include SMT PCB lines, optical lens alignment stations, DMX test equipment, high-temperature aging chambers, and IP waterproof testing facilities. That environment is ideal for manufacturing, but not for solving a Tuesday-night problem in a venue two thousand kilometers from our loading dock. Production knowledge and field service are different disciplines. Connecting them is why we built regional teams.

Malaysia came first, in 2015, to cover Southeast Asia. Mexico followed in 2018 to cover the Americas. Both are YC Light branches, not independent distributors. That distinction matters. A distributor carries several brands and can only offer limited depth on any single catalog. Our branches can pull the full picture from Guangzhou — spare part compatibility, software behavior, custom requests — and apply it in the customer’s own time zone.

What a Stage Lighting Global Service Actually Demands

Years before the Mexico branch opened, we were already exporting to clients in more than 50 countries. Exporting is simple. Supporting is not. A genuine stage lighting global service has to cover at least four things: response speed, language, technical depth, and after-sales follow-through.

Response speed starts with time zones. Malaysia gives us daytime coverage for Southeast Asia. Mexico gives us daytime coverage for the Americas. Guangzhou headquarters covers the rest of the world. Language support follows the same logic: our sales team works in English, Chinese, and Spanish, and the regional branches make those languages a daily practice rather than a scheduled exception.

Technical depth comes from the factory process. CE (EMC & LVD) and RoHS certification provide the baseline for electrical safety and material compliance, and our certifications page documents that foundation. But a certificate does not help a crew solve a DMX addressing issue at 11 pm. That requires a person who knows the fixture, and that is what the branches add.

The table below summarizes how we split regional coverage between the two branches and the headquarters.

Coverage area Malaysia branch (2015) Mexico branch (2018) Guangzhou HQ (2012)
Primary region Southeast Asia North, Central, and South America Global sales plus all other regions
Working languages English, Chinese Spanish, English English, Chinese, Spanish
Typical project role Installation and debugging, technical training, rental support, spare parts coordination Same services for events, film and TV sets, and rental houses in the Americas Manufacturing, OEM/ODM, pre-production samples, final inspection, bid design, new designs

That division only works because the branches are backed by the same quality process. When a fixture leaves Guangzhou, it has already been through sample approval and final inspection. The regional team is not there to fix factory mistakes; it is there to keep the project moving on site.

Malaysia: A Southeast Asia Hub for Stage Lighting Global Service

Southeast Asia is one of the most tour-heavy regions for live events, with festivals, corporate shows, and permanent venues running throughout the year. When a show moves between countries in the region, the crew wants a supplier who understands local conditions: high humidity, heat, and the practical realities of moving equipment across borders.

The Malaysia branch, opened in 2015, was built for exactly that environment. For clients in Southeast Asia, it shortens the distance between a malfunctioning fixture and a useful answer. The branch handles installation and debugging, technical training, rental support, and project coordination. It also supports project contracting for fixed installations, working alongside headquarters on stage scheme design and effect rendering.

Mexico: Extending Service Across the Americas

The Americas bring a different set of demands. Spanish-speaking markets span from Mexico down to Argentina, while English-speaking markets in the United States and Canada need fast access to fixtures for film, television, and corporate events. In 2018 we opened the Mexico branch to give both markets a closer point of contact.

For a film and TV lighting team in Mexico City, or a rental operation in Texas, the benefit is concrete: a support team in a compatible time zone, Spanish or English as the working language, and a partner who can join installation or training sessions without flying halfway around the world. Our film and TV lights category is one of the 13 product lines that benefit most directly from this coverage, because production crews rarely have the luxury of long shipping windows.

A Practical Checklist Before You Commit to a Supplier

Whether you are a rental house building inventory, an integrator quoting a fixed installation, or an event company buying its first set of fixtures, the same questions apply. This is the checklist we run through with our own project managers, and it is worth applying to any supplier you evaluate.

  • Pre-production sample confirmation: can the factory build a sample and let you approve it before mass production starts?
  • Final inspection before shipment: is there a documented inspection step at the end of the line, or do products go straight to the freight forwarder?
  • Warranty terms: what is covered, for how long, and who handles the logistics if something fails?
  • Technical training: can the supplier train your local crew, either remotely or on site?
  • Spare parts strategy: are common parts available as discrete items, or do you have to replace an entire board for a simple repair?
  • OEM and ODM flexibility: can the factory adjust colors, DMX protocols, or packaging to match your brand?
  • Design support: do they offer stage scheme design, effect rendering, or bid design for tenders?

Inside the factory, those answers are supported by visible process — SMT PCB lines for control boards, optical lens alignment for moving heads, DMX test equipment for every output, high-temperature aging chambers, and IP waterproof testing for outdoor fixtures. A factory tour is the clearest way to judge a supplier, and it is also the fastest way to understand why we separate production from field service. Our product range spans beam and LED moving heads, pars, lasers, effects, strobes, outdoor IP65 fixtures, follow spots, DMX consoles, stage effect machines, battery-powered lights, and film and TV lights. All of it goes through the same inspection discipline.

FAQ

Should I contact the Malaysia or Mexico office if my project is outside those regions?

Both branches have defined coverage areas: Malaysia serves Southeast Asia, and Mexico serves the Americas. For projects elsewhere, our Guangzhou headquarters manages sales directly. Because our team works in English, Chinese, and Spanish, you can reach us in the language you prefer, regardless of time zone.

What support can a regional branch give my rental company?

Rental companies depend on fast turnaround and predictable spare parts. The regional branches help with fixture training, DMX setup, installation and debugging, and spare parts coordination. Because the branches are part of the factory rather than independent distributors, they can access the full engineering picture from Guangzhou.

How does the one-year warranty work with a regional office?

The warranty is a factory commitment documented in the sales contract. Before every shipment we perform a final inspection, which reduces warranty issues at the source. If a problem does appear, the regional office coordinates diagnostics and return logistics, and the factory decides the repair or replacement path. The practical result is a shorter loop between the person holding the fixture and the person who can fix it.

Can I customize fixtures through a regional office?

Yes. OEM and ODM work is handled at the Guangzhou factory, where we can adjust colors, DMX protocols, and packaging, or develop entirely new fixture designs for your brand. The regional office gathers your requirements, aligns them with our engineering team, and manages the sample confirmation. Custom projects still follow the same pre-production sample and final inspection process.
